Abandoned Bottles

In one of my previous jobs I did a lot of woodland surveying. Out all day long with just the trees for company in remote patches of woodland.

I’d often find old, Victorian bottles, half-embedded in dirt, with little mossy ecosystems thriving inside them. Bottles of tonics, old brand names. Chipped and mottled with age.

Where did the bottles come from? Who put them there? Why were they out in the countryside drinking tonics and medicines?
